The selected works, written in the last 100 years, span various cultures and musical styles, including arrangements of traditional Zulu, Iraqi, Irish and American folk songs, as well as compositions by Randall Thompson ("Frostiana"), Gwyneth Walker ("Now I Become Myself"), Roger Bourland ("Alarcón Madrigals"), Ysaye Barnwell ("Would You Harbor Me"), Ruth Moody ("One Voice"), Rosephanye Powell ("Still I Rise") and Anne Lister ("Stone Circles").

“The program explores the idea that as we work within ourselves to become confident in our abilities, committed to our ideals, and loving of those around us, our efforts 'ripple' outward to the community that surrounds us," says Elinor Armsby, Cantilena artistic director.

"As we work to strengthen ourselves, we are working to strengthen our community. This community might be our family, our local area, a shared interest or even the wider global community. In each of these, we find a place and way to make a positive impact.”

All persons attending the concert at First Parish are required to be masked and fully vaccinated. The performance will be approximately one hour and without an intermission.

Ripple Effect matching fund: Spring fund-raising appeal

Like many groups in the arts,  Cantilena has struggled financially over the last two years.  The inability to offer our usual concert schedule combined with increased expenses because of the pandemic has had a significant impact on our financial well-being.

Despite this revenue hurdle, Cantilena's mission of bringing diverse and challenging music for women’s voices to a broader audience has become an even stronger imperative.  The membership of Cantilena remains engaged and excited about the future and we look forward to many more years of singing and performing.

To make this season and future seasons a reality, the group asks for the public's financial support. The goal is to raise $5,000.

Please consider a contribution to this spring's matching fund.  Your donation will go even further thanks to the generosity of Cantilena's board and other generous supporters.

All contributions received by June 15, up to $3,200, will be doubled, dollar for dollar,  by the fund.

Cantilena, Inc. is a Section 501(c)3 nonprofit; your gift may qualify as a charitable deduction for federal income tax purposes.
