Relatives and friends were invited to visiting hours in the DeVito Funeral Home, 1145 Mass. Ave., on Thursday, Aug. 21, from 4 to 8 p.m., to recall the life of Daniel John Pelrine, whose parents are from Arlington.

Pelrine, a 37-year-old Mattapan ironworker, died Sunday morning, Aug. 17, while sky-diving in Pepperell. He had recently gotten engaged, was dedicated to the sport and had made hundreds of jumps over the years, friends and authorities said.

A Boston Globe obituary said "he will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity and incandescent spirit.

"His loves were family, ironwork and skydiving. An upright, fun-loving guy, he was present at every family gathering, always the first to lend a hand, and ready for adventure at the drop of a hat."

He was a graduate of the Waldorf School of Lexington, Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, attended art and technical schools, and was a longtime member of Iron Workers Local 7.

He is survived by his parents, John Hubert and Marilyn Combs Pelrine of Arlington, his siblings Sara Theresa Hyson of Medford, Matthew Aaron Pelrine of Somerville and Anna Elizabeth Pelrine of Cambridge, his fiancé, Shavanese Sommerville, and her son, Xavier Polanco, 9, of Mattapan, brother-in-law, Charles E. Hyson, Jr., niece Uma Lucia Hyson, 5, Charles John Hyson, 2, of Medford, Extended family and many friends, co-workers and fellow skydivers.

Those remembering Pelrine plan to share memories at Green Street, 280 Green St, Cambridge, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Aug. 21.
