Survey on open-space plan ends

Open Space Plan logo

UPDATED,  Oct. 4: The town is updating the current 2015-2022 Open Space and Recreation Plan, which documents the community's open space and recreational needs and outlines an action plan over the next seven years.

Share your thoughts on open space, recreation via brief survey by Monday >>

Mark your calendar for the second open-space community forum, set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16.

Find out more about the OSRP, take the survey, and register for the forum here >>

All are invited to participate and have their voices heard through an open and transparent process.

The first public-engagement event for the plan update was held June 10.

Facilitated small groups

After a short presentation about the plan, participants will join facilitated small groups to talk about how they currently experience the town’s open spaces and recreational facilities and then brainstorm about future ideas to improve resources, access and opportunities.

The volunteer Open Space Committee is responsible for preparing and monitoring the town’s plan and is leading this effort.

The committee received funding through the Community Preservation Act to hire Horsley Witten Group as a consultant for technical assistance, and is collaborating with the town planning and with many town departments, commissions and organizations.

Arlington has had a state-approved open-space plan in place since 1996. Keeping the plan current through regular updates helps to maintain and enhance environmental, social and economic benefits for Arlington residents, and makes the town eligible for a variety of state grants for implementing new projects.

Residents will have other opportunities to provide feedback on the plan throughout the summer and early fall to ensure a comprehensive understanding of community needs.
